The Merry Monk has become my life's work. Since coming to the Merry Monk in 2002, it has been a real rollercoaster ride and one I would not change for the world.
I have tried to create an informal, comfortable and stylish atmosphere at the same time ensuring that everything we offer is always of the highest quality and standard. No other business has ever given me so much pleasure as this one.

I came to the Merry Monk in 2003. As a trainee I worked my way up and finally realised my ambition when I was appointed Sous Chef in 2007
During my time at the Merry Monk, I have worked closely with Adrian and the other chefs (one being my younger brother) and the rest of the kitchen team assisting with menu suggestions. This has given me the opportunity to travel with Adrian and visit some of Englands finest restaurants.
Les Rutterford
I am the Merry Monk and offer a smiling welcome to all our customers. I have been here since Adrian and Michelle bought the Restaurant in 2002.
Les is Adrian's(the owners) father-in-law and Michelle's father. Les also works beside his wife Angie helping with the front of house to make it a really family run restaurant.

I think it is important for people to feel at ease rather than in awe whilst dining at the Merry Monk. We simply want to be friendly, attentive and hope our customers will walk out having pleasant memories.
This invaluable experience has led me to develop my philosophy of leading by example, so guests will find me in the restaurant, keeping the staff busy and the customers happy. I encourage my staff to interact and entertain our guests, and we treat all the people who walk through our doors as if they are the most important, whether they are here for a drink with friends after work, or a meal. I achieve this by being a strong visible presence and not hidden behind an office door. I look forward to greeting you at the Merry Monk.
